Overview
A Designated Premises Supervisor is the person named on a premises licence, under the Licensing Act 2003 the DPS has the responsibility for ensuring their premises complies with relevant legislation. As such the DPS must be a personal licence holder and will have been awarded the HABC National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders or its equivalent.
The DPS has all the legal and social responsibilities that go with being a personal licence holder, but also a number of additional legal, social and moral responsibilities that the person in ultimate control of licensed premises would expect. It is ideal that candidates for this course have already been awarded the HABC NCPLH, but this is not a prerequisite and the qualifications may be attained in any order.
Local Licensing Authorities expect the DPS to have trained for the role and a growing number of them state this in their licensing policies.
